I am doing the recorded score for Lenora's upcoming interdisciplinary work! “Passages,” is a new interdisciplinary collaborative work between dancer Lenora Lee, media designer Olivia Ting, composer/sound designer Francis Wong, lighting designer Patty-Ann Farrell, and dancers Marina Fukushima and Kevin Ho. It is in homage to Lee’s grandmother on her mother’s side, Lee Ping To, who immigrated through the Angel Island Immigration Station in 1940, the year that the Station was closed. An excerpt of the work will be performed on the Station July 31, 2010, at the Chinese Historical Society of America August 14, 2010, and at CounterPULSE September 12, 2010. The full length work will be presented September 24-26, 2010 at Dance Mission Theatre by Asian Improv aRts in collaboration with the Chinese Historical Society of America and the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation. It will also be performed in New York November 3-7, 2010 at the John Ryan Theater as part of White Wave’s Wave Rising Series. Click here for more info!

Asian American Jazz Festival Poland July 30 - August 1, 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Under the theme, "Blues and Beyond", a multicultural group of US artists is performing in Poznan, Poland for the Asian American Jazz Festival Poland. This is the second edition of the Festival, the first was in 2007. I am thankful to once again be a part of this event hosted by the Estrada organization in Poznan. Last night, my trio with Chad Taylor and Tatsu Aoki was greeted to a rousing welcome the first night of the festival in the Old Square, which has had an amazing revitalization since the end of communist rule. It is humbling to play among these centuries old buildings; we were told that one of the churches had stones from a ninth century building. Tonight will be concerts by Dohee Lee (performing FLUX, originally commissioned by Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and produced by Asian Improv aRts) with me, Tatsu Aoki and Any Homma, Jeff Chan's Horns of Plenty and the Chicago Blues with Jimmy Burns, Greg McDaniel and Chad Taylor. Tomorrow is Yoko Noge's Japonesque. We have been overwhelmed by the hospitality of the community here!
